This 1995 Porsche 911 (993) was brought to Autoscope Foreign Car Care when the client noticed oil on the floor of his garage under the engine of the car.  Once on the lift, we were able to see quite a bit of oil on the bottom of the engine, as seen in the pictures.  Looking from above it appears there are no major leaks, however from the bottom it is easy to see.

The leaks are coming from the valve cover and timing cover gaskets, and the leaks are significant.  Based on the oil residue found and the amount of fresh oil seen it appears that these have been leaking for some time.  Although these types of leaks are not uncommon on a Porsche 993 and need to be addressed soon.  With the amount of oil and the areas of the engine compartment that have oil on them, there may be other leaks that are not detectable until the known leaks are addressed and repaired.

Proper corrective action is to replace the gaskets that are known to be leaking, thoroughly cleaning the engine, and continuing to monitor for any further leaks.  The car will be checked in a few hundred miles so any other leaks can be identified and corrected.  Once these leaks are repaired, this Porsche 993 has many good years ahead of it and many more smiles to create for its owner.
